| Dr. Jin Young Choi Assistant Professor of New Testament and Christian Origins Dr. Jin Young Choi represents a new generation of New Testament scholarship that is attuned not only to the local church, but also to the life of Christianity internationally. By weaving biblical narrative together with diverse interpretative threads, her work illumines the interplay of economics, gender relations, political and religious power. Dr. Choi was most recently a fellow in the Program in Theology and Practice at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Funded in part by a grant from the Lilly Endowment, this program is uniquely focused on linking theological academic work with training in the arts of congregational ministry. She recently completed a Ph.D. in New Testament and Early Christianity at Vanderbilt University. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled, “Understanding as the Embodiment of Mystery in the Gospel of Mark.” A talented, interdisciplinary scholar with a practical focus, Dr. Choi holds a Master of Theology from Emory University, a Master of Arts from the Graduate School of Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea, and a Master of Divinity from Presbyterian Theological College and Seminary, also in Seoul. Her article, “Misunderstanding of Jesus’ Disciples in Mark,” is included in Mark: Texts @ Context (Fortress, 2010). Ms. Choi taught foundational courses in New Testament at both Vanderbilt University and Columbia Theological Seminary. She has published a number of Bible study books and lectionary resources for church leaders and lay people in the United States and South Korea. Dr. Choi working on a forthcoming book, 'Embodying Mystery: Discipleship in the Gospel of Mark, scheduled for publication in 2015 by Palgrave Macmillan, NY, 2015. She is working on an article entitled 'Leadership of Phronēsis as Embodied Wisdom' and contributed to a volume, Ministry and TheSetting the Table: Wisdom Leadership in PANAA Women in Theology. This book project is funded by Louisville Institute. Lastly, Dr. Choi contributed to the first entry of the volume, “Asian/Asian American Interpretation' published in The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Bible and Gender Studies, Vol I, ed. Julia M. O’Brien.
